When This Man Goes Into His Shed, He Creates Something That’s Changing Kids’ Lives

When This Man Goes Into His Shed, He Creates Something That's Changing Kids' Lives

While prosthetics are incredibly helpful for people who’ve lost limbs or were born without them, they aren’t exactly affordable.

Just one prosthetic limb can cost thousands of dollars — sometimes tens of thousands, and even the best quality ones are only meant to last a few years for adults. For growing children who need them, prosthetics have to be replaced faster than their parents can save up the money to pay for them. That’s why two men from the U.K. teamed up to do something incredibly generous.

Drew Murray and Stephen Davies want children to have prosthetic limbs without their parents worrying about the cost, so together, they created Team UnLimbited. In his shed, Davies makes 3D-printed hands and arms and gives them to kids for free.

Children can choose whatever theme and color they want. They’re also super easy to use.

Bending the elbow tightens the grip on the hand, and straightening it loosens the grip.

Mark Hamill takes genre-bending ride in Batmobile!/HamillHimself/status/223923346792910848

You know you’re at San Diego Comic-Con when you hear that Luke Skywalker himself has traded in his X-wing for a ride (or at least a brief sit-down) in the Batmobile.

Genre-wise, it’s really not that much of a stretch. True Hamill fans know that the actor was the voice of the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series” as well as the “Arkham Asylum” and “Arkham City” video games.

@HamillHimself Those people are crazy to let the Joker anywhere near a Batmobile.

Is Mexico dangerous for Canadian tourists?!/news_fst/status/177705327947554816

CBC News:

In the category of murder rates alone, Mexico fell even farther down the list. Jamaica had 1.73 killings annually for every 100,000 Canadians visiting the country. Mexico’s rate was 0.268 killings for every 100,000 Canadians visiting a year, on average, between 2000 and 2010.

All other favoured tourist destinations had less than one Canadian killed for every 100,000 who visited the country, including mainland China (0.379), Dominican Republic (0.34) and Australia (0.269).

Gordon Houlden, the director of the Edmonton-based China Institute, said China’s ranking surprised him, but the higher figures in China may stem from the type of tourism it offers.

Visitors to Jamaica and Mexico typically head to enclosed resorts and spend their time on the beach, while visitors to China tend to explore the country independently, he said.

“People who go to China are circulating in the broader society,” Houlden said. “They are on their own to a greater extent — much more than if you look at the numbers of Mexico or Jamaica.”

Also, violent incidents don’t necessarily get reported in the Chinese media unless the incident is high profile.

There are still a lot of parts of Mexico that I’d think twice about visiting.

Newspaper ed. who published gun owners’ personal info protects Twitter account!/JammieWF/status/283980495879012352

@gdthomp01 @croyle1 @lohud @gannettShe has taken down her personal FB page, from what I can see.

— WriteRight (@jfecser) December 26, 2012

As Twitchy reported, over the weekend, New York’s Journal News published an interactive map pinpointing all legal handgun permit holders — names and addresses included — in Westchester and Rockland Counties. In doing so, the Journal News not only violated personal privacy but also essentially put those who live in gun-free households at risk. Editor and VP CynDee Royle, responsible for publishing the story, proudly stands by her decision to violate others’ personal safety … by bravely running away.

In a blatant example of “for me, but not for thee” syndrome, Royle has deleted her Facebook profile and maintains a protected Twitter account, meaning only those whom she approves can access her deep, thoughtful tweets. Perhaps Royle just doesn’t have the guts to face the righteous indignation of gun rights advocates.

Extremely reckless & irresponsible reporting by @lohud & Exec Editor @croyle1 for publishing names & addresses of legal gun owners in NY.

— Joseph Gruber (@josephgruber) December 24, 2012

@croyle1 You should be ashamed of yourself for publishing the story locating legal gun owners.

— DanStlMo (@DanStlMo) December 24, 2012

How would you feel if someone posted your address on Craigslist letting everyone know you were unarmed during Christmas? @croyle1

— John Difool (@MCHblazer) December 24, 2012

@croyle1 SHAME ON YOU Cyndee Royle. Criminals can now use your map to identify my home as gun free… why are you helping them? #lohud

— American_Taxpayer (@American_Taxpay) December 26, 2012

Many people are calling for Royle’s personal information to be published (some have already published it). We will not be linking to any of it. Unlike Ms. Royle, we don’t subscribe to the Spike Lee School of Intimidation.

We don’t know about you, but the thought of Mia Farrow’s servants trying to cook a Thanksgiving meal while partitioning and reusing one paper towel and alternating with a dirty rag isn’t terribly appetizing. Or maybe one paper towel per day is only for us common folk, and not for our morally superior Hollywood stars.

'This is sick': Sen. Elizabeth Warren and fellow Democrats slam president for defending neo-Nazis

For an announcement about infrastructure, President Trump managed to rile just about everyone Tuesday. Of course, the press didn’t care about his plan for the country’s infrastructure; they wanted another take on Charlottesville, and they got it. It’s about this time people have to wonder just what sort of job Anthony Scaramucci would have done as communications director would Mooch have been able to come up with something that didn’t set off just about every journalist and pundit in America? It’s not for us to translate the president’s statements; doesn’t somebody in D.C. get paid good money to write presidential speeches that don’t deliver talking points to the opposition party on a silver platter?

Are there genuinely good people out there concerned about the need to remove all Confederate monuments today even if it means the activists taking matters into their own hands? Sure. But that’s not what Democrats like Sen. Elizabeth “2020” Warren heard.

This Insane Video Reveals The True Depths Of Human Stupidity...Just WHY?

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Hey you know what would be an awesome idea? Jumping into alligator-infested waters and taunting them with a dinosaur costume!!” No? Me neither.

If you’re a functioning adult with even half a brain, then chances are that your basic survival instincts would kick in and tell you to stop being a lunatic. However, if you’re 35-year old Jason McDonald, the answer was simple. He thought, “Yes. Give me the dino suit and I’ll do the thing.” With a fish in hand, the man teases the alligator with a light snack while showing a general disregard for his own life.

If you were searching the internet for a prime example of human stupidity, look no further!

That naked Peruvian bicycle safety rally!/SandGripper/status/179173570193272832

Looks kind of sausage festy. BBC:

Hundreds of scantily clad and nude cyclists took to the streets of Peru’s capital, Lima, to call attention to safety conditions on the city’s roads.

Campaigners say that thousands have been killed on the roads because of reckless driving.

Many of the cyclists painted slogans and signs on their bare skin.

Reports say the convoy cut off roads along an 11km (6.8 mile) route through the main thoroughfares of Lima.

“This is our body. With this, we go out in the streets. We don’t have a car to protect us,” event organiser Octavio Zegarra told the Associated Press news agency.

Between 300 and 500 cyclists are estimated to have taken part in the mobile protest.

And after the headline, we find they’re just “scantily clad”? Lame.

These Sanitation Workers Are, Literally, Everyday Superheroes. Check This Out.

These Sanitation Workers Are, Literally, Everyday Superheroes. Check This Out.

In our society, who do you think of as superheroes? Firemen? Police Officers? Military Service Members? Doctors? How about sanitation workers?

These two men working in sanitation on the Taihang Mountain are every day superheroes. Literally. The pair, who work in the Henan Province of China, decided to bring a little flair to their jobs.

So, they wear Spiderman outfits on the job every day.

Here, the Spider-Men are preparing to descend a cliff to collect litter left by their arch nemesis, The Litter-Bug.

All joking aside, this looks really scary.

Due to a lack of superpowers (such as web-spinning), these heroes must resort to a more precarious method of climbing, using only some rope and the natural foot-holds on the cliffside.

They wear these outfits so that they can be more easily spotted on the hillside.

Plus, this just looks awesome.

Here are Liu Jiancheng and Zhang Chengqing, unmasked, smiling, and rightfully proud of the work they do everyday.

People will think twice about littering once they see the danger it puts these workers in. Sometimes, it takes a few good people dressed in costumes to make the world a better place. Thank you, Spider-Men.

S.F. cops under investigation for turning illegal immigrant over to ICE

S.F. cops under investigation for turning illegal immigrant over to ICE

This is crazy!

A San Francisco illegal immigrant with a deportation order in effect for failure to appear at a Texas immigration hearing in 2005 AND with a conviction of drunk driving in 2012 was set free on Wednesday when it was determined that cops should never have turned the man over to federal authorities.

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

San Francisco police officers dealing with a report of a stolen car ran the victims name for warrants, prompting the man to end up in the custody of federal immigration agents in what is being investigated as a possible breach of local sanctuary-city laws.

After Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 31, was released from jail Wednesday after two months, and after he spoke at a news conference Friday, Police Chief Greg Suhr acknowledged that the longtime city resident never should have been in the hands of immigration agents.

Police officials did not specifically admit to calling those agents, but federal officials said police had done just that.

We are happy and relieved that Mr. Figueroa-Zarceno has been restored to his family, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak, a city police spokesman, in a written statement.

They’re happy that a threat to the city is back on the street?

Worse, the officers are being investigated by the internal affairs bureau for a “sanctuary city policy violation”:

It is the policy of the San Francisco Police Department to foster trust and cooperation with all people of the city and to encourage them to communicate with SFPD officers without fear of inquiry regarding their immigration status, Andraychak said. We are aware of concerns this incident has raised with some members of our community.

He said the police force had opened an internal affairs investigation to see whether any officers should be disciplined.

DHS officials are now determining if they need to catch the just-released Figueroa-Zarceno and deport him:

ICE officials said Friday that Figueroa-Zarceno is one of the at-large foreign nationals who meet the agencys enforcement priorities, including convicted criminals and other individuals who pose a potential threat to public safety.

According to his lawyer, however, Figueroa-Zarceno’s next hearing is in 2019. From the San Francisco Examiner:

Pedros detention brought great anguish to his fiancee and 8-year-old daughter and underscored the danger posed by local law enforcement entanglement in a deportation system that lacks due process, said a statement from Jon Rodney, communications manager at the California Immigrant Policy Center. His release came after a series of legal motions made by his attorneys and public outcry over the case. Figueroa is still in deportation proceedings, but his case has been reopened, with a hearing scheduled for 2019.
